Truth in a Time of "My Truth"
Standing firm on God’s unchanging Word in a world that worships opinion.
“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” John 17:17
We live in an age where everyone has “their truth.” However, if everyone’s truth is true, then nothing really is. The modern world calls disagreement “hate,” emotion “evidence,” and feelings “facts.” Yet Jesus didn’t say, “I am a truth,” He said, “I am the truth.” (John 14:6)
There have been times when speaking the truth made me feel isolated. It’s not easy to be labeled “judgmental” for simply repeating what the Bible says. However, I know that following Christ has never been about comfort. Truth may not always win applause, but it always honors God.
The world says truth is personal: “Follow your heart.” Yet the heart, the Bible says, is “deceitful above all things” (Jeremiah 17:9). True north doesn’t change just because a traveler feels lost. God’s truth is not something we create but it’s something we submit to.
When Pilate asked Jesus, “What is truth?” he stood inches away from the answer. Truth isn’t a theory or a vague concept, He’s a Person. Christ doesn’t just speak truth, He is Truth.
Truth divides light from darkness, right from wrong, genuine faith from imitation. We can’t unite the church by watering down the Word. Love without truth is sentimentality, and truth without love is cruelty but God calls us to speak “the truth in love.” (Ephesians 4:15)
Jesus said:
“Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.” Matthew 10:34
It’s better to offend with truth than to comfort with a lie. Many believers today are more afraid of being labeled harsh than of being found unfaithful. Yet, Christ was never afraid to stand alone.
Every generation thinks it has outgrown the Bible, yet every generation still proves it needs it. Culture changes, but the Word of God does not. Feelings fade, but the facts of faith stand firm. The Truth never changes because God never changes.
The world says, “Find your truth.” The Bible says, “Buy the truth, and sell it not.” (Proverbs 23:23). Truth doesn’t adjust to us, we adjust to it. We are not the editors of God’s Word, but we are to be its messengers.
“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:32
